SOCIALS & DIGITAL CONTENT

** IN THE PROCESS OF UPDATING THIS SECTION FURTHER **

In addition to extensive high-level audio production experience, I am also digital savvy. I have a firm understanding of how to harness digital/social platforms to help increase engagement around on-air content. I am experienced in devising creative treatments for visual content.

For example:

I did a two-year stint as a Digital Editor at itv.com, overseeing all the bespoke behind-the-scenes video content for the broadcaster around its big music entertainment shows, including The BRIT Awards, the Isle of Wight Festival plus huge Take That, Girls Aloud and Kylie specials. Also provided bespoke video content for primetime ITV dramas - such as recording on location in Cornwall for an insider peek at hit long-running brand ‘Doc Martin’. Also filmed with Stephen Fry for his ‘Kingdom’ series, plus Oscar-winner Olivia Coleman and Oscar-nominee Sally Hawkins for other hit shows among many other high-profile actors.

Then, as Lead Producer overseeing BBC 6 Music’s multi-platform show, ‘Now Playing @6Music’, my team won an award for Best Creative Innovation at The Radio Academy Awards 2014. For this we generated highly-sharable social assets as well as delivering a number of radio ‘firsts’.

  • Including the BBC’s first ever visualised companion show live on YouTube. This involved DJ/musician Moby and a host of his well-known music friends - located in different parts of the world - connecting together over a live stream to pick tracks from suggestions that were being tweeted via #Moby6Music by the audience into the live radio show.

  • So, while Tom Robinson hosted the radio show live on 6 Music, the audience could watch in real-time on a second screen Moby and friends deliberating which suggested tracks to play. Their chosen tracks were then promptly played by Tom on the live radio show as well as crossing over to Moby at regular intervals.

  • Other innovations included core 6 Music band James performing the network’s first ever ‘live session playlist’ - where the setlist was picked live in real-time by listeners via # on social media - and then performed by the band.

Meanwhile, to support BBC Radio 2 commissioning my ‘MJ 60@60’ event idea (a day of programming marking what would have Michael Jackson’s 60th birthday in 2018 with a countdown of his 60 best-selling songs), I devised the idea for a series of highly-sharable bespoke videos for social channels. The ‘All Star A to Z of Michael Jackson’ featured videos of famous fans of MJ picking a word alphabetically that summed up the musician for them. Stars included Nile Rogers, MIchael Buble, Alesha Dixon, Rob Brydon and Melanie C. We also treated listeners to an exclusive after-hours guided video tour of the National Portrait Gallery’s exhibition dedicated to the star, called ‘Michael Jackson On The Wall’.

My socials and vis background provides a bonus skill that naturally helps amplify the podcasts I lead on. It enables me to identify compelling socials clips as well as deliver the best content for long-form visualised podcasts.
